Brendan Rodgers: 'James Milner is Liverpool vice-captain'

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers reveals that midfielder James Milner is the Reds' new vice-captain.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that summer signing James Milner will be Liverpool's vice-captain for the 2015-16 campaign.

The 30-year-old joined the Reds on a Bosman from Manchester City, and Rodgers says that his "character" is strong enough for the responsibility.

"He has great character and will be a great ally for Jordan Henderson," the Northern Irishman told a press conference. "He is a great character in the dressing room, he will be vice-captain."

Jordan Henderson succeeded Steven Gerrard as captain following the latter's move to Los Angeles Galaxy this summer.

Rodgers's side kick off their Premier League campaign with a trip to Stoke City on Sunday.
