Garry Monk targets Liverpool scalp

Swansea City boss Garry Monk hopes that his side can cause an upset for title-chasing Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.

Garry Monk is hopeful that his Swansea City side can upset title-chasing Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.

The Swans defied the odds and held Italian giants Napoli to a 0-0 draw in a first-leg Europa League clash at the Liberty Stadium on Thursday.

Consequently, Monk is buoyed by his team's chances of springing yet another surprise this week by earning a result on Merseyside.

He told the club's official website: "It will be a very difficult game, but we will have a go. I said all along that the best bit is when people doubt you.

"Outside of Swansea, I think most people would have doubted we could get a result against Napoli. We could have put in ten performances like that but people would still doubt we could get a result against Liverpool.

"They played their strongest side and I can guarantee a lot of people would have thought they would wipe the floor with us, but we have proven people wrong."

This afternoon's clash is scheduled to kick off at 1.30pm.
