Steve McManaman backs signing of Rickie Lambert

Steve McManaman believes that Liverpool have landed a "bargain" following the signing of Rickie Lambert.

Former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman has claimed that Liverpool have secured a "bargain" following the signing of Rickie Lambert.

The Premier League runners-up completed a deal earlier this week to bring the striker to the club from Southampton for a fee in the region of £4m, and McManaman believes that the England international can continue to impress after scoring 13 league goals last season.

"If he can replicate those kind of figures for Liverpool I think they got themselves a really shrewd bargain," the 42-year-old is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"As we know football isn't about four-year signings or five-year signings, it's about next year. It's year to year unfortunately.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for Rickie".

Liverpool's transfer business is continuing, with reports suggesting that they are close to signing Alberto Moreno from Sevilla.
