Mark Lawrenson: Brendan Rodgers is a great appointment

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes that Brendan Rodgers will make a good manager at the club.

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has claimed that Brendan Rodgers would make a great manager at Anfield.

The Swansea City coach is expected to be officially named as the new boss of the Merseysiders in the next 24 hours.

"It's a great appointment for Rodgers and the biggest gamble the football club have taken in a long time," Lawrenson told BBC Sport. "Quite often they have appointed from within.

"Rodgers has done a great job at Swansea. Everyone loves the way they play their football.

"The chance for Brendan to manage a club which is in the top 10 in country was too much to resist. It's a different challenge for him - the club will be expected to win every game."

Liverpool have been looking for a new manager after they sacked Kenny Dalglish earlier this month.
