Liverpool announce a new long-term contract for academy graduate Jarell Quansah, who has enjoyed a breakthrough year in the senior ranks at Anfield.

Liverpool have announced a new long-term contract for defender Jarell Quansah.

The 21-year-old has been at the club within the youth ranks since the age of five, working his way through the various levels up to the first team.

Quansah enjoyed a productive and informative loan spell at League One Bristol Rovers in 2022-23, experiencing men's senior football for the first time.

Since then, the centre-back has broken into the first-team thinking at Anfield, making 33 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side across all competitions last season.

As well as picking up an EFL Cup winners medal, Quansah also showcased his ability to produce at both ends of the pitch, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

"I could not be happier" - Quansah delighted with new contract

With club action taking a pause due to the October international break, Liverpool have announced a new long-term contract for academy product Quansah.

Speaking with the Reds' in-house media after the deal was confirmed, the 21-year-old was delighted to get the deal over the line as he looks ahead to a long future at Anfield.

"I could not be happier at this minute. I think the way the new manager has come in, his coaching style has definitely been a massive part of that and I think it is the best club in the world for me to develop at and become a better player," said Quansah.

"I think the players around me, who I am looking to work hard off and listen to, I think they are the best in the position at the minute. So, like I said, there is probably no better place I could be.

"I just want to take each step as it comes, every training session as it comes. I just want to keep trying to get better on the training pitch really and as long as I stay tunnel vision to that.

"I just want to keep progressing, keep trying to learn, and keep trying to get better and better by trying to learn off all the senior players, and I have got a lot in my position so anything I can take from them I am trying to do day by day.

"I am hoping to obviously push as well, hopefully we are breeding quite a good environment that we are all challenging for places and as long as we are doing that I think we will all become better players and ultimately become a better team."

What is next for Liverpool in defence?

With the long-term future of youngster Quansah wrapped up, more of the attention will turn to the contract situations of some of the club's biggest stars.

All of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are coming to the conclusion of their current deals at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

News of the Reds solidifying their options in defence make sense, especially considering that Arne Slot's side are reportedly unlikely to move for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi.
