John W Henry: 'Luis Suarez burned Liverpool bridges'

John W Henry says that the time was right for Liverpool to sell Luis Suarez after the striker bit an opponent for the third time in his career.

Liverpool owner John W Henry has admitted that Luis Suarez burned his bridges with the Reds following his latest biting controversy in the World Cup.

Suarez sealed a £75m move to Barcelona this summer, just weeks after the controversial Uruguay striker was hit with a four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini.

It was the second time in the space of 14 months that the 27-year-old was punished for such an offence - third overall - having received a 10-match suspension for an incident with Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic last year.

Consequently, Henry admits that there was no way back for Suarez this time, but believes that Liverpool's attack can still prosper without their talisman this season.

"It was time for Luis and time for the club to make a break," Henry told NBC. "He brought so much to the club but we brought a lot to Luis.

"[Without him] I think you will still see a very explosive Liverpool offence."

Due to his ban, Suarez is not eligible to make his Barcelona debut until mid-October.
