Jordan Henderson has admitted that he found it "difficult" to be suspended for Liverpool's last three Premier League matches.
The midfielder was sent off in stoppage time during the 3-2 win over Manchester City last month, forcing him to sit out the games against Norwich City, Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
The 23-year-old, who will be available for this weekend's match against Newcastle United, told the Liverpool Echo: "It was difficult, but my job was to encourage the lads and try and get them up for the game as much as I could. I just tried to help as much as I could, especially with the young players.
"It's hard, because you want to play. You're frustrated because you're not out there. But you're just like a fan really, you want the lads to do well.
"I kick every ball when I'm watching. And you do see a different side to the game. I learnt a few new things in those three games."
Liverpool head into their final match of the season two points behind league leaders Manchester City.
