Jordan Henderson: 'Liverpool defending was not good enough'

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson admits that the team "weren't good enough" while defending against Arsenal in their 4-1 defeat at the Emirates.

Jordan Henderson has said that Liverpool "weren't good enough" in defence in their defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Reds were beaten 4-1 after letting in three goals in eight minutes in the first half, while also finishing the match with 10 men after Emre Can was sent off.

"Arsenal started well but we knew they would. They had some good chances but I thought once we got through that, we started playing better higher up the pitch and we had chances," BBC Sport quotes the captain as saying.

"But the last 15 minutes of the half we weren't good enough defending one-on-one and we need to be better. We kept fighting second half, played for pride. We felt if we got one goal we could get back in the game, but it wasn't to be.

"We knew it would be tough to make top four even before we came here. We have to keep fighting and working and if we win our games left them you never know."

Henderson scored the only goal for the visitors after Raheem Sterling won a penalty.
