Jordan Henderson: 'Consistency Liverpool's biggest downfall'

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson admits that his side have not been consistent enough this season.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has admitted that his side have not been consistent enough so far this season.

The Reds have put in a number of scintillating displays at times, most notably home and away against Manchester City, with Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Manuel Pellegrini's side drawing comparisons to the 4-1 drubbing at the Etihad Stadium in November.

However, Liverpool have failed to scale those heights on a consistent basis, with 11 wins, eight draws and eight defeats from their 27 league outings this season, and Henderson admits that it is an area where they need to improve.

"I think consistency has been our biggest downfall. Some games have been very good and we look as though we can beat anyone and other days we've been poor and haven't really turned up," he told reporters.

"Consistency is definitely an area where we need to be better. We need to consistently win games and perform in games but I think there are a lot of teams in the league like that.

"There is only probably Leicester who have been very consistent. I know Spurs have been very good of late but they got beat [at West Ham on Wednesday], Arsenal got beat [at home to Swansea on Wednesday], [Manchester] United were on a bad run and now they are doing quite well. The league has been up and down."

Should Liverpool beat Crystal Palace on Sunday then it would be the first time that they have won three league games on the bounce since last March.
