Luis Garcia: 'Liverpool must win trophies to keep Mohamed Salah'

Former Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia fears that Mohamed Salah may leave Anfield for Real Madrid or Barcelona unless the Reds start winning trophies.

Luis Garcia has said that former club Liverpool may struggle to keep hold of Mohamed Salah unless they start winning trophies.

The Egypt international has enjoyed another impressive season for the Reds this term, playing a direct part in 35 Premier League and Champions League goals.

Real Madrid and Barcelona were both linked with Salah last summer and may revive their interest later this year.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Garcia fears that Salah could go the same way as Javier Mascherano, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho in swapping Anfield for Spain.

"If Liverpool win trophies then I think it will be much easier for the club to keep Mo Salah," he told The Mirror. "We know that Barcelona and Real Madrid will be in the market for the best players in the summer. And if you talk about the best players in the world right now then Mo Salah must be included.

"I have seen the talk that Barca and Madrid are interested in him and we have seen in the past with Suarez and Coutinho how difficult it is for players to say 'no' when they get the chance to sign for one of those clubs.

"If Barcelona or Real Madrid come you will be flattered. They are probably the only two teams that a Liverpool player would think about signing for.

"At this moment, though, I think Liverpool are a different club than what they were. They are now a club with the potential to win the big trophies."

Liverpool take on Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League, with the first leg taking place at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

The Merseyside outfit sit second in the Premier League with two games to go.
