Christian Benteke hits out at Tim Sherwood

Christian Benteke criticises Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood for claiming that he is not the right type of player for Liverpool.

Christian Benteke has hit out at Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood for claiming that he would not fit in at Liverpool.

The Belgian international striker left Villa Park for Anfield earlier this summer for a reported fee of around £32.5m.

Sherwood suggested before the move that Benteke was not the right player for the Reds because they do not play the direct style of football that saw him score 15 goals last season.

However, the forward is confident that he will be a success on Merseyside ahead of the new campaign.

"I don't believe that and I told [Sherwood] - I spoke with him and I explained to him the situation. I said football has changed and football now is modern and I can adapt," Benteke is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"It is not just about crossing, I can score normal goals, too. I told him I am not afraid about it. If Liverpool bought me, then they know how to use me. Is that aspect of my game overlooked? I think so - that is why I came here and I can show I can play with my feet, too."

Liverpool start the new Premier League season on Sunday when they travel to Stoke City.
