Jamie Carragher: 'Liverpool were too reliant on Luis Suarez'

Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool were too much of a one-man team with Luis Suarez last season and that has shown up in their performances without him.

Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool's poor start to the season shows that they were overly dependent on Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan scored 31 goals for the Reds in the last campaign and nearly fired them to the Premier League title, but following his departure in the summer, Brendan Rodgers's side have struggled in front of the net.

Carragher told Sky Sports News: "I'm trying to stop talking about Suarez. He's not there anymore, forget him, he's moved on and he's not coming back.

"You've got to look at what you've got now. And they have to get more from those attacking players. There's also got to be a lot more creativity in that midfield. But the longer it goes on it shows how important Suarez was – more important than we all thought at the time.

"At times last season Brendan Rodgers, in press conferences, came out and said 'we're not a one-man team, you're being disrespectful to some of the other players'. But week by week it's shown Liverpool were almost a one-man team at times last season. Those stats are damning really."

Liverpool are seventh in the Premier League with 14 points from their 10 matches this season.
