Jamie Carragher: 'Steven Gerrard leaving is right decision'

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher backs former teammate Steven Gerrard's decision to leave the club at the end of the season.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has expressed his belief that Steven Gerrard's decision to leave the club is the right one.

Gerrard is expected to end his 17-year stint at Anfield when his contract runs out at the end of the season, with the MLS his expected destination.

Carragher played alongside the 34-year-old throughout his own time at Liverpool, and believes that his former teammate is making the right call despite admitting disappointment.

"Sad day for Lfc & English football with the Gerrard news, I think it's the right decision all things considered," he wrote on Twitter.

"Leaving or retiring is a great confidence booster, this morning my timeline was full of "whys Gerrard starting" now it's "Gerrard best ever"."

Gerrard has scored 180 goals in 695 appearances during his illustrious Liverpool career.
