Liverpool will be without the services of their captain Jordan Henderson for three weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Liverpool are expected to be without Jordan Henderson for three weeks due to a hamstring injury.

The Liverpool captain featured in all of the club's opening five Premier League fixtures before being forced off in the 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

As a result of the injury sustained in the Newcastle clash, Henderson could not play any part in Saturday's goalless Merseyside derby.

Although Jurgen Klopp previously felt that the injury was "serious", a scan has revealed that the England international has suffered a minor hamstring strain.

Henderson is still set to be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks, ensuring that he misses Liverpool's Champions League opener against Napoli on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old is also expected to be absent for Premier League encounters against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea, as well as a meeting with Ajax on matchday two of the Champions League.

Henderson is aiming to return in time for the international break for UEFA Nations League fixtures against Germany and Italy later this month.
