Mohamed Salah's record vs. Southampton

Ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday, Sports Mole takes a look at Mohamed Salah's record against the Saints.

Liverpool will be aiming to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League when they welcome Liverpool to Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds thrashed Arsenal 4-0 on Merseyside last time out and enter this weekend third in the table, one point behind Manchester City and four adrift of Chelsea.

Mohamed Salah scored his customary goal against the Gunners in that encounter, and the Egyptian superstar is also partial to a goal versus the Saints.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Salah's record against Southampton.

Salah did not take part in any of Chelsea's battles with Southampton during his ill-fated time at Stamford Bridge, but he laid down a marker right away at Liverpool with a brace in a 3-0 win in November 2017.

The ex-Chelsea and Roma man would then have a hand in both goals at St Mary's later that season - setting up Roberto Firmino's opener before the two attackers swapped roles for the second in that 2-0 success - and his hot streak would not stop there.

Salah scored for the third game in a row against Southampton during a 3-0 Anfield win in September 2018, and he would make that four with an 80th-minute strike on the South Coast later that year as Liverpool won 3-1.

A 2-1 win for Liverpool at St Mary's in August 2019 marked Salah's first game without a goal or assist versus the Saints, but he would right the wrongs of that showing with two of his side's four goals in a romping Anfield success six months later.

Salah would taste defeat against Southampton for the first time last season as the South Coast outfit claimed a 1-0 home win - with former Reds man Danny Ings netting the only goal after just two minutes.

However, the most recent meeting between the two sides saw Liverpool cruise to a 2-0 Anfield win in May, during which Salah set up Sadio Mane's header before Thiago Alcantara rounded off the scoring.

In total, Salah has been on the winning side seven times from his eight games against Southampton and boasts an impressive nine goal contributions (seven strikes, two assists) in that run.

Furthermore, Salah has never failed to bank a goal or assist against the Saints at Anfield, and the 29-year-old will have no intention of breaking that hot streak on Saturday.
