Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Red Bull Salzburg

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news for Wednesday night's Champions League clash with Red Bull Salzburg at Anfield.

Liverpool welcome Red Bull Salzburg to Anfield on Wednesday night looking to pick up the first win of their latest Champions League defence after losing their opener in Naples.

Two late goals saw Napoli beat Jurgen Klopp's side at the Stadio San Paolo for the second successive season, leaving the Reds playing catch-up in Group E.

Salzburg top the pool following their thumping 6-2 triumph over Genk on matchday one, but Liverpool will be favourites in this match having made a faultless start to their domestic campaign.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for the Merseyside outfit ahead of the match.

Alisson Becker

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: October 5 (vs. Leicester City)

Alisson is making good progress from the calf injury he sustained on the opening day of the season and, while Wednesday's match is expected to come too soon for him, there is an outside chance that he could be in contention against Leicester next weekend.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: Unknown

Shaqiri missed out on some rare game time against MK Dons due to a calf injury and he remains sidelined for this match too as he continues his rehab.

Joel Matip

Possible return date: October 2 (vs. Salzburg)

Klopp has confirmed that in-form Joel Matip suffered a "slight knock" against Sheffield United and will be assessed ahead of this match, although the injury is not thought to be serious.

Nathaniel Clyne
