Leyton Orient appoint Andy Hessenthaler as new manager

Leyton Orient appoint Andy Hessenthaler as their new manager on a one-year deal with the option of an extension.

Leyton Orient have confirmed the appointment of Andy Hessenthaler as the club's new manager.

The 50-year-old was placed in caretaker charge of the team for the final five games of the League Two season after Kevin Nolan stepped down from his role as player-manager at Brisbane Road.

Hessenthaler steered the O's to three wins during his short spell at the helm, and that has been enough to earn him a one-year deal with the option of an extension.

"The club are confident they have the right man for the job and believe Andy's expertise, spirit and passion made him the standout candidate for the position," read a statement on the club's official website.

Hessenthaler, who has previously steered Gillingham to the League Two playoffs, will be Orient's sixth manager in the space of less than two years.
