Jamie Vardy expects to be given 15-goal target, despite scoring 24 last season

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy expects to be given a target of 15 Premier League goals this season, despite scoring 24 in their title-winning campaign.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has claimed that he expects manager Claudio Ranieri to give him a target of 15 goals in the Premier League this season, despite scoring 24 in their historic title-winning campaign.

The England international was the top flight's joint-second highest scorer alongside Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero in the 2015-16 campaign.

Only Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane scored more as he took home the Golden Boot for netting 25 times in the league to help seal a third-place finish.

Vardy will lead Leicester's attack once again after committing his future to the Foxes following interest from Arsenal.

When asked in an interview with ESPN if he thought that he was capable of scoring 24 league goals, Vardy said: "No. It was never something I looked at back then, but the gaffer has given me a lot of freedom to make my runs in behind and I have players who I have got with me backing me up and constantly fighting to win balls for me.

"I just took each game as it came and found myself getting on the scoresheet quite regularly. The gaffer set me a target of 15 goals at the beginning of the season and will probably do so again and thankfully I was able to better that."

Leicester will begin the defence of the Premier League title with a trip to newly-promoted Hull City on August 13.
