Jamie Vardy agrees new deal at Leicester City

Leicester City announce that striker Jamie Vardy has agreed a new four-year contract with the club.

Leicester City have announced that Jamie Vardy has agreed a new four-year contract at the King Power Stadium.

After helping the Foxes to the Premier League title, Vardy's release clause was activated by Arsenal and the England international held talks with the Gunners over a £20m move to North London.

However, after failing to give Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger an answer before leaving for Euro 2016, reports soon emerged that the 29-year-old was leaning towards remaining at Leicester and the club have now confirmed that an agreement is in place.

A statement read: "Leicester City have today agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international's contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years.

"Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie's future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club.

"Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France.

"There will be no further comment from either the Club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament."

Vardy has been with Leicester since signing from Fleetwood Town in 2012, and his new contract will keep him at the Foxes until 2020.
