Jamie Vardy: 'I never spoke to Arsenal'

Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy claims that he never spoke with Arsenal about a move away from the Premier League champions.

Leicester City frontman Jamie Vardy has claimed that he did not hold talks with Arsenal about a move away from the King Power earlier this summer.

The 29-year-old was linked with a switch to Arsene Wenger's side in June after the Gunners reportedly met his £20m release clause just prior to Euro 2016.

The England international was said to be contemplating the offer, with his wife Rebekah seemingly confirming a proposed deal, but he instead opted to sign a new four-year contract with the Premier League champions.

"I've always said the brotherhood at Leicester is unbelievable," Vardy told Sky Sports News.

"Personally I feel I have a lot of unfinished business here. It wasn't that big a decision, it was quite easy, this is where I wanted to be."

Asked if he had held talks with Arsenal about a move, he replied: "I was away with England. No [I never spoke with them]."

Vardy went on to discuss speculation linking Arsenal with his teammate Riyad Mahrez, who is thought to be subject of a £35m bid.

"I think everyone in the squad would want him here playing with us," he added. "But it's nothing to do with us, it's up to Riyad and the club to deal with."

Vardy has yet to feature for Leicester in pre-season and watched from the stands last night as his side were thrashed 4-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in Los Angeles.
