Half-Time Report: David Nugent penalty puts Leicester City ahead

A 14th-minute penalty from David Nugent gives Leicester City a 1-0 lead over league leaders Burnley at half time in their Championship match.

A penalty from David Nugent has given Leicester City a 1-0 half-time lead over league leaders Burnley in the Championship this lunchtime.

The Foxes looked sharp from the start as Lloyd Dyer fed the ball in for Nugent, but the striker's pull-back for his teammate came to nothing.

Ritchie de Laet and Anthony Knockaert also had shots inside the opening 10 minutes but a block by Kieran Trippier and a Tom Heaton save managed to keep the visitors on level terms.

However, Nugent was given another chance to break the deadlock in the 14th minute when Jason Shackell tangled with Jamie Vardy in the box, giving the hosts a spot kick that Nugent calmly converted into an opening goal for Leicester.

Burnley had a good opportunity to slot in the equaliser later in the half after Trippier connected with Danny Ings from a corner, but the England Under-21's flick-on was kept out by the post.

Nugent almost set up a second for Leicester just before half time, but his ball through to Vardy was dragged just wide by the striker.
