Claudio Ranieri "pleased" despite Leicester City's FA Cup exit

Claudio Ranieri insists that he is still happy with Leicester City's progress after the club's FA Cup exit in the third round at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has insisted that he is still "pleased", despite the club's FA Cup exit at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

Premier League high-flyers Leicester faced Spurs for the third time in 10 days tonight and after a draw and a win in the first two meetings at White Hart Lane, Ranieri would have fancied his side's chances of winning the third-round replay back at home.

However, goals either side of half time from Son Heung-Min and Nacer Chadli proved decisive as Spurs cantered to the fourth round.

"We were frustrated from the first match when we drew at the end, but tonight Tottenham deserved to win," Ranieri told BBC Sport. "They were better than us.

"I'm still very pleased with us because when you (look at Tottenham), they are team building to fight for top four every year and our journey has only just started.

"In four matches [against Spurs this season], we won one, drawn two and lost one and that is good. An amazing step."

Ranieri went on to admit that the league is the Foxes' top priority this term.

"Our priority is the Premier League," he added. "In the FA Cup I wanted to see all my players and they played to their maximum, so I'm pleased with their performance."

After 22 games of the season, Leicester are level on points with Arsenal at the top and only behind on goal difference.
