Steve Evans wants Sam Byram to commit to Leeds United

Steve Evans stresses that he is desperate for two-goal hero Sam Byram to extend his contract with Leeds United.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has insisted that he would like to see Sam Byram sign a new contract with the club.

A recent report claimed that the 22-year-old had rejected Leeds's offer to extend his current terms, which are due to expire at the end of the season.

However, speaking after the midfielder scored twice to help Leeds beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 this evening, Evans stressed that Byram could still have a future at Elland Road.

"You saw the fans' reception to him. You see the players and all of us - we love the kid to bits. You want him to commit," Evans told reporters.

"Nothing changes my opinion, He has to sign a contract. We can't sit there and say 'the player controls the club'.

"I want Sam Byram to want to be at Leeds United more than anything. If he does, I'm sure something can still be done."

It is believed that a handful of Premier League clubs are plotting January bids for the 2012-13 Player of the Year.
