Charlton Athletic, Leeds United play out goalless draw

Charlton Athletic and Leeds United play out a goalless draw in their Championship clash at The Valley as both teams miss several good opportunities in the contest.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock in the Championship clash between Charlton Athletic and Leeds United at The Valley this afternoon.

The home side could have taken the lead in the early stages of the match when Ricardo Vaz Te released the run of Reza Ghoochannejhad, but the forward put his strike wide of the post.

Ademola Lookman raced clear of the Leeds defence as the Addicks hit the visitors on a counter attack, but Marco Silvestri made a good save to stop his low effort.

Alex Mowatt came close to breaking the deadlock after Leeds were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, but Stephen Henderson made a fine stop to keep his strike out.

The Whites pushed again before the break and Chris Wood should have done better with his effort as he sent a first-time shot over the bar after latching on to a cross from the right.

After the break, Lookman continued to cause problems for the visitors as he raided in from the left and curled his right-footed effort inches past the post.

Leeds responded with an effort of their own as Stuart Dallas fired a low shot towards the near post that was beaten away by Henderson.

Silvestri kept his side level when he made a fine reaction stop to deny Vaz Te from close range after the forward had connected with Ghoochannejhad's cross into the box.

The Whites came within inches of the lead when Tom Adeyemi latched on to a ball over the top of the Addicks defence, but his strike hit the post and bounced clear.

Leeds continued to push on late in the game and Henderson kept Charlton in the match by producing an excellent save to deny Dallas, while minutes later Gaetano Berardi could only send his close-range effort over the bar.

Both teams continued their search for a winner, but the game was to end goalless as the sides endured a frustrating afternoon in front of goal.
