Leeds United buy back Elland Road

Leeds United announce that they have bought back Elland Road after selling it in 2004 for £8m.

Leeds United have announced that the club have completed the repurchase of Elland Road.

Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani vowed to buy back the stadium after he took a 50% stake in the club in January, and he has made good on his promise after recently taking full control of the Championship outfit.

Due to financial problems in 2004, Leeds sold their home of 85 years for £8m, and the deal included a 25-year lease and buy-back clause thought to be set at £17m.

The club have now confirmed that Elland Road is theirs once again.

"Today is an important day in our history and a proud day for me and my team," Radrizzani told the club's official website. "When I met with both management and supporters during my first few months at the club, the purchase of Elland Road was very high on their list of priorities and I'm delighted to be able to announce that we have completed that process today."

The club have also confirmed that work will be carried out on the stadium to improve it ahead of the new season.
