Report: Stefano Mauri released by Lazio

Stefano Mauri is released by Lazio after turning down the club's offer of a new contract, according to a report.

Lazio have reportedly released captain Stefano Mauri after failing to agree a contract extension with the midfielder.

The 35-year-old has spent the past nine years at the Biancocelesti following his move from Serie A rivals Udinese.

His contract at the club expired at the end of June, and according to Sky Sport Italia, he has turned down the Rome outfit's offer of a new deal.

Mauri made 29 league appearances for Lazio last season, to help the club qualify for the Champions League.
