Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has insisted that he did not join the club for a "holiday" or the money.
The former Liverpool star said that he wants to remain with the Major League Soccer outfit for as long as possible, but admitted that he will miss his home city.
"If there's anyone out there that thinks I'm coming here for a holiday and a last pay cheque, they'll be proved wrong very soon," he told reporters.
"I'm looking forward to staying here as long as possible. I love Liverpool, the city, and I will miss it at times.
"I'm a Scouser and I'm proud to be a Scouser but I want to give my children a chance to live in a new place."
Gerrard will make his LA Galaxy debut against San Jose Earthquakes on July 17.
