Juventus and Napoli are reportedly among several clubs interested in Bologna and Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson, who has scored six Serie A goals this season.

Juventus and Napoli are reportedly both running the rule over Bologna and Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson.

The 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at Hamilton Academical before a four-year stint at Aberdeen from 2018 to 2022, which ended with a €2m (£1.7m) switch to Serie A.

After netting seven Serie A goals during his debut campaign, Ferguson has continued to go from strength to strength in a Bologna shirt this season, registering six goals and five assists from 29 games in all tournaments.

Ten of those direct involvements have come in the Italian top flight, where Bologna have emerged as surprise contenders for Champions League football, sitting fourth in the table with 51 points from 28 matches.

Thiago Motta's side were on a six-game winning run in Serie A until a 1-0 loss to runaway leaders Inter Milan on Saturday, where Ferguson wore the captain's armband for the 14th time this season.

Predominantly an attacking midfielder but also comfortable in a deeper position, the 24-year-old has earned 10 caps for the Scotland national team and is knocking on Steve Clarke's door for a Euro 2024 call-up.

Ferguson will have the opportunity to impress in international colours later this month too, having been included in Clarke's squad for their upcoming friendlies with the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

The Hamilton-born midfielder remains under contract at Bologna until 2027 with the option of a further year, meaning that the Rossoblu are under no pressure to sell, but their resolve is expected to be tested this summer.

According to Sky Italia, both Juventus and Napoli are interested in snapping up Ferguson in the summer window, although a multitude of other unnamed clubs are also in the running.

No team is believed to have made a serious play for Ferguson's signature yet, and any deal will also see his former club Aberdeen pocket 15% of the transfer fee owing to a sell-on clause.

Juventus' search for midfield reinforcements has been well-documented, as the Old Lady have lost Paul Pogba to a four-year doping suspension, although the Frenchman will appeal his punishment to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Should the CAS uphold Pogba's suspension, though, he will not be able to play again until 2027, one year after his contract with Massimiliano Allegri's side expires.

However, Juventus will have Nicolo Fagioli back at their disposal this summer, as the Italian is now five months into his seven-month ban for betting on illegal platforms.
