Alvaro Morata strike ensures Juventus sneak past Palermo

Alvaro Morata's second-half strike gives leaders Juventus a narrow victory over Palermo in Serie A.

Juventus edged past Palermo 1-0 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera thanks to Alvaro Morata's second-half strike.

There were few chances of note early on in Sicily, with Stephan Lichtsteiner's tame effort from the edge of the penalty area rolling wide of the post.

Carlos Tevez then tested Stefano Sorrentino, with the Palermo keeper fumbling his shot before the ball was cleared to safety.

The Argentinian striker then turned provider, feeding Stefano Sturaro to slice wide as the visitors pushed for the opening goal.

The Rosenaro failed to record a shot on target as the sides headed into half time level.

It was Juventus who continued to dominate after the break, with Tevez's free kick stinging the gloves of Sorrentino who punched away.

Lichtsteiner's second chance of the game came from a Claudio Marchisio corner, but the Swiss international headed over.

Spaniard Morata grabbed the game's only goal in the 70th minute, with his left-footed effort curling past Sorrentino.

The result leaves Palermo 11th in the Serie A table, while leaders Juventus are 14 points clear of Roma, who face Sampdoria on Monday.
