Goalscoring chances are few and far between as Japan and Morocco play out a 0-0 draw during the opening 45 minutes in Newcastle.

Both Japan and Morocco found goalscoring chances hard to come by during the opening 45 minutes at the Sports Direct Arena this evening.

Japan striker Kensuke Nagai had his nation's best chance from the edge of the area during the early exchanges, but he shot wide of the target.

Meanwhile, Morocco attacker Mohamed Abarhoun saw his effort from close range crowded out by the Japanese defence in the 30th minute.

Victory for Japan would see them qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.
