UEFA will investigate an alleged incident where a banana was thrown onto the pitch during Italy and Croatia's 1-1 draw in Poznan yesterday.

UEFA have confirmed that they are investigating claims that a banana was allegedly thrown onto the pitch during Italy's Group C match against Croatia yesterday.

Issues of racism have been an underlying problem for this summer's European Championships, with Italy striker Mario Balotelli previously claiming that he would walk off the pitch if he was racially abused during a game.

It is understood that the European governing body have been alerted to an incident during the Azzurri's 1-1 draw with the Croats at the Municipal Stadium in Poznan yesterday, where a banana is believed to have been thrown on the pitch.

Meanwhile, Italy have also written to UEFA to express their "regret" that Croatian and Spanish fans booed during Italy's national anthem ahead of both fixtures.
