Davide Astori called up by Italy

Davide Astori is expected to be named in the Italy squad for Euro 2012 in place of the injured Andrea Barzagli.

Davide Astori has been summoned to Italy's Euro 2012 training camp by coach Cesare Prandelli.

While the Cagliari defender has not been officially named in the Azzurri's 23-man squad for the tournament, he is expected to be called up before Friday's deadline.

Astori's presence is due to the fact that Prandelli still has doubts over the fitness of centre-back Andrea Barzagli, who is struggling with a calf complaint.

Barzagli, who plays his club football with Juventus, has already been ruled out of the group stage with the injury and recent reports have claimed that he will not recover in time to play a part in the latter stages, should Italy qualify.
