Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy hints at Stephen Hunt deal

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy hints that Stephen Hunt could be offered a new deal in January.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has hinted that Stephen Hunt could be offered new terms when his current deal expires in January.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder joined the Championship club on a short-term deal a fortnight ago.

McCarthy has said that he would be open to extending the 32-year-old's contract.

"Hunty is a very good footballer. He has played at the highest level and knows what the game is all about," McCarthy told Ipswich's official website.

"He's a great character, people bounce off him and I'm delighted we have got him here on the short term, and maybe longer as well. Who knows.

"He will get a club in January because he deserves to be playing football. Will that be us? Could be. If he plays well we might have to bang down the door to sign him. If he plays well though, there could be other clubs banging down the door to sign him."

Hunt has previously stated that he would like to extend his stay at the club.
