Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has admitted that the Suffolk club are close to signing former Nottingham Forest captain Luke Chambers.
The centre-back, 26, is available on a free transfer after being released by Forest and Jewell has said the pair have met on multiple occasions.
The Tractor Boys manager said: "I've met Luke on a number of occasions over the summer to talk football, he's very keen to come here and we've been speaking regularly over the last day or two.
"We're very hopeful it will get done next week."
Ipswich are looking to bolster their defence after a leaky season last term.
