Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy: "We were outstanding" in win over Rotherham United

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy brands his side's performance in their 5-2 win over Rotherham United as "outstanding" as the club recorded their second victory of the week.

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has hailed his side's performance in their 5-2 win over Rotherham United at the New York Stadium.

The Tractor Boys took a 4-0 lead before the Millers launched a fightback in the second half, but Daryl Murphy notched his hat-trick in the 72nd minute to secure his team's emphatic victory.

"We were outstanding in the first half and it could been more than the three goals," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"We started like that last season - maybe not as much this season - and our front two or three were all over them. We strangled the life out of them and their keeper made two or three good saves to keep it down to three.

"When Murph made it four then you think that is it but we were sloppy and they got two back in it with two great strikes. We were worried then for a bit but Murph got his hat-trick. He got the rewards that his performance deserved."

Ipswich moved up to 10th place in the Championship following their win.
