Aberdeen miss chance to go level with leaders Celtic

Aberdeen miss the chance to go joint-top of the Scottish Premiership after losing 3-1 at Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Monday night.

Aberdeen have missed the chance to go level on points with Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic after losing 3-1 at Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Monday night.

The visitors entered the match on the back of a four-game winning run in the league and looked to be on course for a fifth when Adam Rooney opened the scoring in the seventh minute, but the hosts scored three unanswered goals to secure the points.

Rooney's opener, which came after excellent work from Craig Storie, capped what was a fine start from Aberdeen, but the home side were level in the 18th minute when Iain Vigurs capitalised on a mistake from Ash Taylor before finding the back of the net.

The home side had their second six minutes into the second period when Greg Tansey converted from the penalty spot after Taylor had been penalised for a foul on Ross Draper.

Both teams had chances in the minutes that followed, but a third arrived for Inverness in the 65th minute when Carl Tremarco nodded home at the far post to put the game beyond the visitors.

The result has left Aberdeen second in the table - three points behind the league leaders Celtic, while Inverness have moved above St Johnstone into sixth.
