Hull City have reportedly offered Mohamed Diame a new contract in the hope of persuading him to reject Newcastle United.
On Monday, it was claimed that Rafael Benitez's Magpies have triggered a £4.5m release clause in the 29-year-old's contract.
It is believed that Diame has been chosen as a possible replacement for Moussa Sissoko, who has been linked with a move away following his performances for France at Euro 2016.
However, Hull are desperately trying to keep hold of Diame by offering the midfielder a new three-year deal, according to Sky Sports News.
During his two years at the KC Stadium, Diame has made 50 league appearances and scored 13 goals.
Hull are not in the best shape heading into the Premier League season as they have a long list of injury woes and are still without a manager following Steve Bruce's resignation.
