Paul McShane: 'Swansea City defeat a huge wake-up call'

Hull City defender Paul McShane admits that his side's defeat to Swansea City has provided the team with a wake-up call in their battle against the drop.

Hull City defender Paul McShane has admitted that his side's defeat to Swansea City is a major wake-up call in their fight against relegation from the Premier League.

A brace from Bafetimbi Gomis and a strike from Ki Sung-yueng condemned Steve Bruce's men to the loss at the Liberty Stadium, leaving them just two points clear of the relegation zone.

McShane has insisted that his side have to fight in their remaining seven games, which sees them play five teams from the top half of the table, to ensure they retain their top-flight status.

He told reporters: "Every year there are teams who put runs together and others who get dragged into it. This has got to be a massive wake-up call because it's ok when you are a few places above the relegation zone, but when you look at the points difference it's nothing.

"A single weekend can change everything and we are definitely bang in it. We've got to go into every game looking to get three points.

"It does not matter who we are playing because we know we can play against the big boys – we've had some good results away from home."

Hull are 16th in the Premier League following their loss to the Swans.
