David Meyler: 'Alan Pardew headbutt incident is in the past'

Hull City midfielder David Meyler reveals that he has put the Alan Pardew headbutt incident behind him as his side take on Newcastle United at St James' Park later today.

Hull City midfielder David Meyler has admitted that he is over the incident that saw Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew headbutt him last season.

The Magpies boss was handed a seven-match touchline ban for the misdemeanour in his side's 4-1 win over the Tigers at the KC Stadium last season.

Meyler has insisted that there is no bad blood between him and Pardew in the aftermath of the melee, and has revealed that he will have no problem shaking the 53-year-old's hand.

He told reporters: "Look, I'm a Hull City footballer, I only deal with us, nothing else. We'll just shake hands and that's it. There will be no problem with that. He apologised straight away and it's all forgotten about. We both want to win the game.

"What's the point of me dwelling on it? As much as the incident happened, I was more annoyed because we lost 4-1. I flew home with my father and we never spoke about it once. We spoke about the game. The incident was nothing."

Hull face Newcastle in their Premier League clash at St James' Park later today.
