Martin Canning named permanent Hamilton Academical player-manager

Hamilton Academical defender Martin Canning is named as the club's new player-manager.

Hamilton Academical have appointed Martin Canning as the club's new player-manager.

The 33-year-old defender had been in caretaker charge of the Accies following Alex Neil's departure to Norwich City earlier this month.

Canning oversaw three defeats, including a 5-0 thrashing at Partick Thistle, before being installed on a permanent basis on Friday.

Chris Swailes has been named as Canning's assistant, while Guillaume Beuzelin will be first-team coach.

Hamilton are currently in fifth place in the Scottish Premiership table, nine points behind leaders Celtic.
