Fulham boss Martin Jol admits that he was keen to sign Papiss Cisse before the striker moved to Newcastle United.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has admitted that he tried to sign Papiss Cisse before the striker moved to Newcastle United.

Cisse joined the Magpies in January 2011 for £9m following a prolific spell with Freiburg in Germany.

Jol now claims that he was eager to bring the Senegal international to Craven Cottage before missing out on his signature.

"He was always on my list. I can't lie so I have to say yes," said Jol. "He made the choice for Newcastle and that was it."
