Scott Parker has not surrendered World Cup hopes

Scott Parker admits that he needs a "big season" at Fulham to force his way into England manager Roy Hodgson's World Cup thoughts, but still maintains hope of making the trip to Brazil.

Fulham midfielder and former England captain Scott Parker has not given up on his aspirations to represent his country at the 2014 World Cup.

The 33-year-old was handed the Three Lions armband by caretaker boss Stuart Pearce last year, before featuring prominently in current manager Roy Hodgson's 2012 European Championship campaign.

He has only made one England appearance in 2013, but Parker does maintain hope of being on the plane to Brazil, despite admitting that it would take a "big season" for him to force his way back into Hodgson's thoughts.

"Hopefully I can get into Roy Hodgson's plans, or even a squad, you never know," he told Sky Sports News.

"I realise it will be difficult but we have qualified for the World Cup. I need to have a big season and if I can, there may just be a possibility."

Parker, who has been an ever-present since moving to the Cottagers from Tottenham Hotspur in a £5m switch this summer, has accumulated 18 international caps since debuting in 2003.
