Jol: Zamora exit made sense

Martin Jol reveals that the signing of Pavel Pogrebnyak meant the exit of Bobby Zamora was not such a big loss.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has claimed that Bobby Zamora needed to be sold to Queens Park Rangers.

Zamora moved to Fulham's rivals on Tuesday and Jol quickly replaced the striker by signing Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak.

There were reports that Zamora and Jol had fallen out but the Dutch manager believes that QPR's "good offer" was the reason for the forward's exit.

The former Tottenham boss said: "The talk of a rift wasn't just over the past couple of weeks - it was over the last couple of months and probably since August.

"Bobby wanted to move so we had to wait for a good offer and QPR made a good offer.

"It was only a matter of making a decision of whether to keep him or let him go. I had the opportunity to get somebody else, who is a bit younger in Pavel."

Fulham are currently 13th in the Premier League.
