Anthony Martial: 'Euro 2016 was disastrous'

France forward Anthony Martial brands his Euro 2016 "disastrous" after barely being used by Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps.

Anthony Martial has branded his Euro 2016 "disastrous" after struggling for minutes under France boss Didier Deschamps.

Les Bleus reached the final of the European Championships on home soil, but were beaten by Portugal courtesy of an extra-time goal from Eder, who stunned the hosts in the 109th minute.

Martial only played 69 minutes of football in the summer tournament and after Deschamps claimed that the Manchester United forward was 'too exhausted' to take part, the 20-year-old has revealed his disappointment.

"It was a very difficult Euros, we didn't manage to win the title and the coach only played me for 45 minutes - it was pretty disastrous," he told Telefoot.

"After that I spent it on the bench, but that happens, I am young, I am going to learn from that. It was the first time I had played so much for my club but that is not an excuse. I should have been better."

Martial netted his first international goal as France recorded a 3-1 win over Italy in a friendly last week.
