Vincenzo Montella warns against complacency

Vincenzo Montella warns that Fiorentina were nearly punished for their complacency in the second half of tonight's 2-1 victory over Sampdoria.

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella has said that his players became complacent while in control of their match against Sampdoria this evening.

The Viola led 2-0 thanks to a first-half brace from Giuseppe Rossi, but they saw their lead halved by Manolo Gabbiadini in the 73rd minute, despite dominating proceedings at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

However, they still managed to see out the victory, which takes them to fifth in Serie A.

"At times you get the feeling this team wants to be spectacular above all else," Montella told Sky Sport Italia. "That is our strength and at times can become our weakness. We can't take the joy of football away from the lads.

"Perhaps tonight we felt a little too in control and relaxed, which is an error we must not make. You need to be complete in order to win.

"This side needs to have fun with its football and trying to clip their wings would take away some of that creativity, so I don't want to tell them off too much."

The Florence-based club travel to Udinese after the international break.
