Feyenoord have confirmed that veteran forward Robin van Persie will play on at the Eredivisie club for at least another season.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker returned to his boyhood team in January, signing a contract that contained a clause allowing both parties to "assess the situation" at the end of the season.

After helping Feyenoord win the KNVB Cup last month, the 34-year-old claimed that he would take a few weeks to decide whether it was time to hang up his boots.

However, the Rotterdam-based club have now announced that Van Persie will remain among the playing staff at De Kuip for at least another year.

"Robin van Persie has agreed to add one more season to his playing career at De Kuip," a club statement confirmed.

"The club recently made it known through technical director Martin van Geel, head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst and others that Feyenoord wanted to keep hold of the striker.

"The 34-year-old has now said that would like to play for one more season."

Van Persie, who won 102 caps for the Netherlands, scored a well-taken goal in last month's cup final as Feyenoord romped to a 3-0 win over AZ Alkmaar.
