Fenerbahce dug deep to secure a 3-2 win at Trabzonspor before the international break in a match marred by clashes.
Fred's first-half brace put the Yellow Canaries on course for what seemed like a comfortable victory, but Enis Bardhi's 63rd-minute goal and a 78th-minute penalty by Trezeguet drew Trabzonspor level.
However, Michy Batshuayi snatched a winner in the 87th minute to hand Fener the victory and keep them within two points of league leaders Galatasaray.
The post-match scenes were, however, unsightly as Trabzonspor fans stormed the pitch to prevent Fener's players from celebrating. The situation escalated into physical altercations before a large number of security personnel intervened and stopped the attack.
Ismail Kartal's side will resume their pursuit of extending their unbeaten league run to 20 matches when they face Adana Demirspor on Wednesday.
The last two meetings between both sides have ended in draws, and a similar result here would be detrimental to Fener's title hopes as they could fall further behind if Galatasaray win their game on Tuesday.
Adana Demirspor head into this clash on the back of a 4-1 victory over Sivasspor, extending their unbeaten run to three games (W2 D1).
The Blue Lightnings led at half time courtesy of a Youcef Atal goal, but Sivasspor levelled the game through Bengali-Fode Koita five minutes into the second half. However, Yusuf Sari restored the lead three minutes later before Nani and Emre Akbaba added the third and fourth goals to secure all three points for Adana.
Hikmet Karaman's side are currently ninth in the table, six points above the relegation zone, and will hope to further distance themselves from the drop zone.
Adana won one of their last two visits to Fenerbahce and will be hoping to cause another upset when both teams face off on Wednesday.

Fenerbahce will be without Bright Osayi-Samuel as he serves a one-match suspension for accumulated yellow cards.
Fred and Caglar Soyuncu are sidelined with physical discomfort and back injuries respectively, while Joshua King is doubtful.
Edin Dzeko will look to add to his league leading 18 goals when he starts up front this weekend.
For Adana, they will be without Atal, who was sent off for a second bookable offence in the win over Sivasspor.
Milad Mohammadi should be the beneficiary of Atal's absence as he is likely to start at right-back, while Nabil Alioui is doubtful as he looks to recover from a muscle injury.
Fenerbahce possible starting lineup:
Livakovic; Oosterwolde, Aziz, Soyuncu, Kadioglu; Yuksek, Yandas; Kahveci, Szymanski, Tadic; Dzeko
Adana Demirspor possible starting lineup:
Mahammadaliyev; Mohammadi, Gravillon, Cokcalis, Mohammadi; Rodriguez, Maestro; Mendoza, Michut, Erdogan; Akbaba
We say: Fenerbahce 2-1 Adana Demirspor
Fenerbahce are in great form and have learned how to dig deep in the games they need to. Adana are in good form heading into this clash but we do not think they have enough quality to stop Fener from getting maximum points here.
