Phil Jagielka desperate for Aaron Lennon stay

Everton defender Phil Jagielka wants to see the club tie up a permanent deal for on-loan Spurs winger Aaron Lennon.

Phil Jagielka has revealed that he is desperate to see Everton retain the services of Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon beyond the end of his loan spell.

The 28-year-old joined the Toffees on loan in January after being deemed surplus to requirements under Mauricio Pochettino.

The England international has established himself as a first-team regular since the move, netting twice in 11 starts, and teammate Jagielka is hopeful that a deal can be struck to sign him permanently this summer.

"He's been a massive, key component to why we've done so well these last couple of months," he told the Daily Star. "I'm sure if Spurs are looking to get rid, then the manager and the board will be looking to make that permanent.

"I was delighted when we got him in. His work rate is fantastic and he's nicked a couple of goals. I've known him for a long time. Growing up, he was just up the road when I was at Sheffield United and he was at Leeds.

"Unfortunately, when Spurs got a lot of money for Gareth Bale, they bought a couple of people who play in the same position as Aaron and he was forced down the pecking order."

It was reported last week that Roberto Martinez may be priced out of a move for Lennon, whom Spurs rate at around £9m.
