Gareth Barry moves to Everton on loan

Gareth Barry joins Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City on the final day of the transfer window.

Gareth Barry has agreed to join Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

The England international has fallen out of favour at the Etihad Stadium, with Manuel Pellegrini preferring to partner new signing Fernandinho with Yaya Toure in midfield so far this season.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez was eager to add to his midfield options after the club allowed Marouane Fellaini to join Manchester United late on transfer deadline day.

The deal was under threat due to City wanting to sell Barry rather than allow him to leave on loan, but an agreement was in place before the deadline had passed.

The Toffees have also completed a deal to bring Romelu Lukaku to the club on loan, as well as agreeing to sign James McCarthy from Wigan Athletic.
