Everton have moved into eighth place in the Premier League table following a 6-2 win over Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.

Arouna Kone scored three times for the Toffees, while Romelu Lukaku and Gerard Deulofeu were also on the scoresheet for Roberto Martinez's side, who ran out comfortable winners against the struggling Black Cats.

Sunderland managed to level the scores at 2-2 early in the second period courtesy of Steven Fletcher, who followed up Jermain Defoe's effort late in the first half, but a Sebastian Coates own goal sent Everton on their way to all three points.

Here, Sports Mole has taken a closer look at how each player performed at Goodison Park.

EVERTON

Goal

Tim Howard: Has not been in his best form thus far this season, but the American could do nothing about either Sunderland goal at Goodison and made a couple of smart saves in the first period. (6/10)

Defence

Seamus Coleman: Was a big doubt for the match due to illness, but the right-back started and indeed finished the contest. Caused Sunderland a whole host of problems with his energy down the right. (7/10)

John Stones: As expected, the Englishman was neat and tidy in possession, but he got caught out for Sunderland's first and had a couple more uncomfortable defensive moments. Not his best game. (6/10)

Ramiro Funes Mori: Used his pace to escape a number of potentially dangerous situations, but lost out in a battle of strength with Fletcher for Sunderland's second goal. Looks to be a good signing. (7/10)

Bryan Oviedo: Only lasted 25 minutes of the clash on Merseyside after picking up a hamstring injury during a foot race with Defoe. Could now be facing yet more time on the sidelines. (6/10)

Midfield

Gareth Barry: Sent off against Arsenal last time out, but this was much more like it from the experienced midfielder. Helped control the tempo from a central area and his use of the ball was excellent. (7/10)

James McCarthy: Spent most of the game sitting alongside Barry in central midfield, but drove forward late on and set up Kone's second with a cute little pass into the striker. Always influential. (7/10)

Ross Barkley: Was a little guilty of conceding possession too easily in the first half, but was instrumental in the second 45 minutes. Had too much drive and power for Sunderland's midfield. (7/10)

Attack

Gerard Deulofeu: Has frustrated at times this season, but this was much more like it from the Spaniard. Scored Everton's first before setting up their third and fourth. Caused so many problems out wide. (8/10)

Romelu Lukaku: Played a beautiful one-two with Kone for Everton's second, before scoring the home side's fourth and again setting up Kone late on. A brilliant all-round striking performance. (8/10)

Arouna Kone: Man-of-the-match performance from the striker, who scored an excellent hat-trick at Goodison. Drifted in from the left and Sunderland simply had no answer to his movement. (9/10)

Substitutes

Brendan Galloway: Would not have been easy entering the match in the 25th minute, but the full-back showed his maturity to pick up the pace of the game. So quick across the turf when needed. (7/10)

Kevin Mirallas: Would have been disappointed not to have started, but the Belgian looked very dangerous after entering in the 65th minute and came close to adding to Everton's six goals. (6/10)

Leon Osman: Surely one of Osman's most comfortable outings in an Everton shirt. Played the final 12 minutes at his own pace as he enjoyed time and space in the final third of the field. (6/10)

SUNDERLAND

Goal

Costel Pantilimon: Did not make an actual gaffe for any of Everton's six goals, but the imposing goalkeeper should have been stronger from high balls and a bigger presence between the sticks. (5/10)

Defence

Wes Brown: A fine defender during his time with Manchester United, but looked really short here. Never had enough pace to match Everton's rampaging forwards, who caused havoc at Goodison. (5/10)

Sebastian Coates: Did set up Defoe's goal with a long-range pass, but the former Liverpool defender was untidy and clumsy in defensive areas. Like Brown, could not live with Everton's movement up top. (5/10)

Billy Jones: Was guilty of not coming across to Deulofeu during Everton's first and the full-back did not look comfortable being deployed in a three-man defence. Another that struggled to perform. (5/10)

Midfield

DeAndre Yedlin: Has blistering pace, but that did not stop Everton causing a whole host of problems down his side. Did not impress in a wing-back position and was replaced for the final 25 minutes. (5/10)

Lee Cattermole: As expected, put himself about in an all-action first-half performance, but the skipper had to be replaced five minutes before the break after pulling up with an injury. (6/10)

Yann M'Vila: Has arguably been Sunderland's best player in recent weeks, but the midfielder found it tough at Goodison. Tidy in possession, but left big holes in the middle of the park. (6/10)

Adam Johnson: Came close to opening the scoring in the first half, but could only hit the post from inside the box. Dangerous in possession, but did not offer much protection to his defence. (6/10)

Patrick van Aanholt: Started like a house on fire as he smashed the post early on during an energetic start, but the former Chelsea man simply ignored his defensive duties for long spells. (5/10)

Attack

Jermain Defoe: Returned to the XI with a well-taken goal. Quite probably his team's best player on the afternoon as he caused Everton's back four problems. Needed more from those around him. (6/10)

Steven Fletcher: Like Defoe, did his bit with an excellent header early in the second period. Looked dangerous when Sunderland broke forward, but he was replaced for the final 15 minutes of action. (6/10)

Substitutes

Jack Rodwell: Neat and tidy in possession of the ball, but did not work as hard as Cattermole in the middle of the park. Needed to offer his team more bite in a key area of the field. (5/10)

Sebastian Larsson: Many are surprised that the Swede is currently out of the Sunderland first team and he showed his worth with some strong defensive work in the final 25 minutes. (6/10)

Duncan Watmore: Only given the final 15 minutes, but made an excellent impression. Came close to scoring late on and showed nice feet in tight areas. A really impressive cameo appearance. (6/10)
